Graham Watson Chat 4-18-08

Snake: Graham, thanks again for your help. Cloudson is sick and recovering from post-op surgery. But, he would like to know your thoughts on the Black and Gold game this Saturday. While the audience on ESPNU enjoy the show? Will the fans enjoy the show?

Graham Watson: I think everyone will enjoy the first half because it's the starters and Chase Daniel already said he's going to throw the ball around quite a bit. The second half? Well, it's a running clock...
Sorry to hear Cloudson had surgery. Best wishes.

Snake: Graham, thanks again for the help. Where were you last week? Cloudson had surgery last Friday and is recovering, some well wishes from you would make him very happy. But, he is wondering whether Mizzou and ESPN realize that the Black and Gold game is the same day as the first Passover seder? It makes it difficult for the Alpha Epsilon Pi alums to make it to CoMo for the game and still get home in time for gefilte fish!
That being said, who are the "under the radar" players that you are looking forward to seeing on the field this Saturday?

Graham Watson: You know, I would tell you some of the "under the radar" players but then you wouldn't read my preview tomorrow. You'll have to wait until you get the paper. I will say that one of them is St. Louis' own De'Vion Moore. He's been fantastic this spring.

Snake: Graham, thanks again for the help and it's good to see you back. Cloudson is wondering about the Chase Daniel-Jeremy Maclin Opening Pitch at Busch from Monday. Are you more offended by the choice to throw a football to start baseball season in Baseball Heaven or by the throw itself?

Graham Watson: Well, the choice to throw a football was kinda lame, but then to throw it in the dirt was just sad. You know, the whole reason Chase and his family moved to Southlake was so that he could play baseball with a better team. Nice to see that paid off. Chase was a pitcher in high school (he also ran track) and he thought he was awesome. I saw him play maybe three times, and to me, he had two pitches: medium fast and not so fast. He thought he had a change-up, it was just a slower fast ball. No curve, no slide, no knuckle. Medium and slow.

Snake: Graham, thanks again. Cloudson is excited that, after this week's legal news, the Tigers are now #1 in the Fulmer Cup standings at www.edsbs.com. If the Tigers take home the Cup, will the athletic department hype it up as much as they did when the football team was named #1 by the Anderson & Hester College Football Computer Rankings?

Graham Watson: Ha! I saw that as well. T-shorts will be made. I think Mizzou will tour the police stations around the state claiming that they have college football's most nefarious team.

Snake: Graham, thanks again. Last night, Cloudson heard Mike Kelly say, "The score is 12-12 in a slowly developing thriller." How would you describe the scene at The Sprint last night?

Graham Watson: A game that set basketball back several decades. And it wasn't just Mizzou, it was the entire evening session. Watching Iowa State score seven points in the first 10 minutes of its game against A&M made me sad for the state of Big 12 basketball.

Snake: Graham, thanks again. Instead of calling it "Forty Minutes of Hell," Cloudson is fond of calling it "Forty Minnutes of, Hell, I may as Well Just go to Sleep." How do you stay awake during the games?

Graham Watson: Well, I'm usually on deadline during the night games, so I'm usually typing during the second half. The afternoon games are a different story. I actually don't mind watching the team. Yeah, it's frustrating at times, but I'm a huge college sports fan and there's going to be a time when I won't have the opportunity to watch bad basketball. I have to savor this. I also have to be mindful of my expressions in case I'm caught on TV. I got a couple text messages from friends during the Kansas State game.

Snake: Graham, thanks again. A college football website recently ranked the Mizzou-Illinois game as the #2 nonconference game for 2008 (behind only Ohio State-USC). Is it too early for Cloudson to start tailgating?

Graham Watson: Cloudson should be very excited for this game. I think Mizzou is going to see a better quartback in Juice Williams than it did a year ago. And the RB that's replacing Mendenhal (can't think of his name right now) is the kid that ran all over Mizzou when Williams and Mendenhal were on the bench. So, the first game of the season should be pretty exciting. I'd start tailgating when tickets go on sale in July.

Snake: Graham, Cloudson is wondering which team will have a better baseball season: The Cardinals, Royals, or Missouri Tigers?

Graham Watson: The Missouri Tigers. Going to Omaha.
And then there are my Texas Rangers... ick... But hey, former Mizzou player Ian Kinsler signed a new deal, so all is good.

Snake: Graham, thanks again. Cloudson is planning a road trip to at least one away game during the 2008 football season. Last year, he went to Boulder and Manhattan. Where should Cloudson go this year?

Graham Watson: Texas if for no other reason than to hang out on Sixth Street. But beware of UT football players on Sixth Street, some of them like to rob you.
Texas will be the best road trip because it will be Chase Daniel's only chance to face the team that shunned him so many years ago. Oh, the drama.

Snake: Graham, thanks again for helping out. Cloudson has a hotel room on reserve and tickets for the Final Four in San Antonio in preparation of a miracle Tiger run this season. But, he was in the Alamodome for the Big XII Championship and doesn't know if he can take two backbreaking Tiger losses in the same arena in such a short span of time, much less the same ridicule he had to endure from opposing fans on the Riverwalk.
Your thoughts?

Graham Watson: I think Cloudson should save his money for, say, next football season. Or if he really wants to see Mizzou in the Final Four, he might have to wait another decade... at least.
He can take solace in the fact that Mike Anderson will probably be there regardless of whether his team goes. Perhaps he could just walk around the Riverwalk with CMA and they can endure the ridicule together.

Snake: Graham, thanks once again for taking my question. My friend, Cloudson, is wondering if he can try out for the Missouri basketball team. He played for the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy Rams (Overland Park) from 1991-1995 and has spent the years since then honing his skills by shooting nothing but 3-pointers with Reggie Miller on NBA Live 95 for the Sega Genesis.
Your thoughts?

Graham Watson: If he had trained on Double Dribble on Nintendo, I think he'd have a better chance of making the squad.

Snake: Graham-
Thanks once again for answering my question. This one, once again, is in regards to my friend, Cloudson. As you know by now, he's a huge Mizzou fan and is having a difficult time getting fired up about the basketball season. It's almost February, and he cannot even bring himself to pay attention to the games.
Do you have any words of wisdom for Cloudson? Maybe there is a channel that shows nothing but games from the 1993-1994 season?

Graham Watson: I can understand his frustration. I get paid to watch MU's games and it gets tougher every day. I think there's needs to be a channel that shows nothing but good Mizzou basketball games to remind the fans of what this program was. However, I think Cloudson just needs to realize that Mizzou is a football school.

Snake: Graham-
Thanks for your help and tips all season about how my friend, Cloudson, should behave himself at various locations around the country. Now that the season is over, how should Cloudson pass the time until August 30th?

Graham Watson: There's always spring football.

Snake: Graham-
Once again, I need to ask you about my friend, Cloudson, and his well-being for our group's trip to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl. With it being New Years Eve, followed by tailgating and the kickoff shortly after, should I be concerned for his safety? As a reminder, he is a big Mizzou fan and enjoys yelling at fans of the opposing team.
Thanks.

Graham Watson: Fans in the SEC don't mess around, according to the MU basketball coaches who are from Arkansas. I'd muzzle your friend and keep the flask in the car.

Snake: Should my friend, Cloudson, be concerned for his well-being on Saturday night? He's a big Mizzou fan and likes to yell at the fans of the opposing team. Thanks.

Graham Watson: I think all fans should be concerned for their well-being when these two teams [MU and KU] get together.
You think I joke...
